Glenn's Backyard Build

Times are tough, the world's economy is takin' a beating; What should conscientious luthiers do in response?! How about some scrounge builds! Nothin' fancy, nothin' from far away, and lots of imagination...

Glenn's Backyard Build

Post by Glenn » Tue Oct 14, 2008 5:24 pm

When this concept was originally introduced over at LF I got some pine that was locally cut to use for my top and a few rounds of Maple that was on the side of the road on my way to work. Both had been cut very recently but that was several months ago now so they're a lot farther along on the drying end.

So here's what I'm doing...of course an Ukulele

Top: Pine which I believe is white
Back and sides: Maple that is quarter sawn going the wrong direction (the rounds weren't thick enough to be oriented top to bottom)
Neck : Maple
Fretboard & binding: Walnut that was cut about 5 years ago somewhere in the county. I was gifted with a good amount...this should just about wipe it out
kerfing: more will be revealed...I hope
