Grant,

There is nothing boring about this build. We want to see everything.

What a great idea gluing the bindings up against the plastic outline. I just might try that trick when I attempt to make some rope binding.

What is the best way to cut inner tube? In a spiral?

Thanks for sharing,

Lefty

That glue-up technique is a draw-droppingly neat idea, Grant. The back back figure is going to look real nice under finish.

Thanks for documenting so thoroughly the build. Your always teaching us something.

Grant,

That's a very purty looking box and your patience and inginuety in making the purfling inspiring. You and Haans are slowly but surely tempting us in to the "purfling zone"

Well, thanks for the comments Lefty, Mac, Steve, Arnt, and Dave. The positive feedback means a lot :D Some times you can post up a bunch and get mostly silence and it is easy to wonder if anybody cares.

Guess I am at the point that I gotta route some binding and purfling chanels. I don't have one of those fancy arms from Garry, nor do I own any of the other styles of binding jigs or fixtures, so you will have to bear with my "cave man" approach.

Then it will be on to finishing the neck, but first I gotta order up some tuners. Stew Mac has a couple new versions of their "Golden Age" restoration tuners. Think I will order up a set of each and see which one I like the best.

And keeping as true to the original as I can, this will have a dovetail neck joint. Now wouldn't you know it....I have had a couple of these size 2 Martins apart for neck resets and I never thought to measure the dovetails  Oh well, I do have photos, so can work from that.

And as for fret spacing, I plan to just mark from the original guitar.

More to come by the weekend, this one is getting close.

Grant,
If by the caveman approach you mean using handtools then take some pictures of cutting the binding channels. My last attempt was a disaster using a router on a handle that was supposed to follow the contours but, alas... :wallbang:
I am making a jig based on what LMI is selling but I would like to see some details of how it is done with handtools.
Thanks,
Eddie

Eddie, I won't be doing it by hand, but will use a fairly naked trim router.
