Grant, this is a real treat of a build thread. I particularly like the second set of cocobolo, can't use it myself due to allergy, one deep regret. The bark rosettes, as others have said, look superb, I like the way that the 'figure' in the bark is angled with respect to the top grain, a particular bee in my own bonnet. I don't much like it when it's with or normal to the grain. I've restored a couple of guitars with bar frets, but never made one from scratch, so I await the fretting with interest.

Thanks for posting this.

Have been busy the past couple of days sorting, photographing, and packing wood, but have squeezed in a bit of progress :D

Gluing the curved laminated braces
Image
This time I carved them to shape before gluing....waaayy easier :wallbang:

And 3 layers of the 5 laminations of the main braces
Image
The braces around the soundhole are not laminated and will be glued last.

Thanks for looking

Thanks for the background info, Grant. It appears that the first lamination of the braces that cross over the bridge plate is the same thickness as the bridge plate. Is that correct? The result would be the second layer is glued to the bridge plate?

Edit: Ok, I just went back to your bracing explanation in the "Design 101" section of the forum and will stop asking questions you've already answered there and simply enjoy this thread and patiently wait to see these guitars and play them at Stringfest.

As promised, here is the final bracing....completed. (as Fred mentioned, this may all be in the Design 101 section, so consider this a recap)

First, here are all of the laminated braces with the 5 layers glued up
Image
Everything looks kinda messy at this point with the glue on the sides

Next step is to plane to height
Image
No scallops, just an even curve. I have done this enough times that I pretty much know what is needed

Then I carve the cross section, mostly with small planes with a bit of cleanup with a chisel. Here is one done
Image

And the rest of them
Image

Now I add the braces in the upper part
Image
These are solid, not laminated. This completes the bracing. Just a bit of cleanup fine sanding to do

Another view

This shows how the laminations interlap at a brace junction
Image

So, you might be wondering about the space under the brace that goes over the bridge plate
Image

Well, it is so I can add a B-Band :D

Thanks for looking and ask questions or comment.
