Back door build

Times are tough, the world's economy is takin' a beating; What should conscientious luthiers do in response?! How about some scrounge builds! Nothin' fancy, nothin' from far away, and lots of imagination...

Got the back glued on and the end graft done also fitted my logo. Had a good run at it today.

Molly helped me a little in binding the top. This is one area where I must really try harder, it seems an alien concept to me when I see some of others binding, mine is just crap! Still it is recycled maple floorboard and some dyed boxwood, I must get some proper stuff and try some little lines and details although I am not keen on m.o.p. and glittery stuff.

Have you tried wrapping the body after the binding is glued / taped up ? I now use my trusty MTB innertube split and tied into a long length. It adds flexible clamping pressure , wont stick to wood glue and tightens up all the little gaps that tape alone just wont get. I just bound a uke with outstanding results...absolutely no filler required anywhere, and that is a forst for me!!
You may want to check out luthier tips du jour on you tube, Robbie uses a very similar method when binding his guitar bodies and as always his vids are full of useful stuff.

Managed a first fit today still a fair bit to do on finish which needs buffing but I am reasonably happy with outcome so far.

Wood on the back looks nice but the front is a bit...odd.

Neil,
I hope that you are pleased with this reincarnation. I think it looks great, like you preferring the back to the top. There's something very satisfying about recycling wood. I made a window last year out of some pallets, all laminated up to get to the right thickness and to give me a short cut with the joinery. My window was once a pallet. Your guitar was once a door. Well done.

Here is my little recycled guitar finished more or less. It plays very nice and is quite sensitive, doesn't like hard strumming the sound becomes a little confused but a great little fingerstyle guitar. This is a little video as I haven't worked out the mp3 business yet. Click on the link and it should play...one way or another. Thanks for looking and your comments.
