Well, in a nutshell, yeah, you can. In general, higher ohm value yields greater gain and treb tone response, with less compression. If by "When you clean it up," you mean when dropping volume, then I'd ask first what caps you're using on the volume and tone pots? If that's the issue, then ...

Addendum #1, (Hopefully not jacking your thread, Mike!). After talking more with the player, this Mandocaster is quite similar to what I think I heard you talking about doing. Holy crud, now that there are smarts, huh? I'm kinda, funnily enough, in a similar 'Hmmm' mode as you Mike - Just started the wiring for the Mandocaster, so need to actually think out how best to do that - 1 single coil for the mando, 2 for the tele, but how to make it sound good and best aren't fir...
