Looks Like I Should Get Busy

Well, while cleaning and organizing my shop, I discovered all sorts of interesting stuff. Some of which I sort of knew I had, but not nearly this much of. I knew there were a few bent sides, but thought many were probably rejects. Not so. While some have relaxed a bit and will need some touch-up, th...

Catching up with recent happenings in the shop

After a long period of inactivity, the shop is finally busy again. Here is a summary of the past two weeks, or so' First, Sandy has been back and we put a new bridge on the guitar she built a couple of years ago. The original one had cracked. Re: Danny's Guitar

She’s a beaut, and that top is, well, one in a million! Goltz bracing, I trust? Yes, has all the features of my guitars plus a "bird's mouth" headstock joint (like John Slobod does, except cut by hand). And this one was awesome sounding right off the bat. I should mention, again, that I n...

Actually, it was in there pretty solid. It survived resawing and thickness sanding. We did finally stabilize it a bit with epoxy.

Danny's Guitar

We have been building a guitar for my friend Danny Yochum for over a year now. Body is cocobolo rosewood with a white spruce top. I had one top with a 30 calibre bullet lodged in it, so resawing the billet gave a bookmatched bullet. Danny chose this top. I showed the body of this guitar at Stringfes...

Slowed down a bid, but we did get the peghead inlay done. H M S, for Hazel Magnolia Sumption. Cavities routed IMG_6303.JPG Glued in IMG_6304.JPG Gaps filled IMG_6305.JPG Just need a bit more fine sanding. Working on the fingerboard now, but I have misplaced my 3/16" brad point drill bit and not...

Re: John's Mandolin

Not much happening this past week. Just ordering parts, tuners, bridge and pick guard. Did make a fret slotting template. Here, again, He just gave fret to fret measurements, which will compound any errors if you lay out this way. Need to use nut to fret distances, which I had to go through and add ...
