Have the back plate engraved foe another set of tuners. A simpler design, but similar to many from the 1830's.

The engraving is done. Now, need to stamp the border and buff out the roughness from the engraving. Then drill and countersink the remaining holes. Then polish it up. A few irregularities, but the design is so busy that they won't be that obvious.

Are you sure you've never done this, Grant? That looks great! Thanks, David. I am learning as I go. A few scratches from slips of the tool, but hope they will mostly polish out. The neck on these old guitars was a rather complicated construction. These had an "ice cream cone" shaped neck heel with the grain 90 degrees relative to the neck shaft and a separate piece of wood. The joint requires a vertical dovetail and a separate wooden "key" to strengthen ...
