Re: The Back Yard Build Contest!
you aren't that far behind either. I am still working on mine out of Honey Locust. I bent and joined the sides, put in a rosette and cut out the soundhole on the top, and have glued up two different backs. Then I stopped. It's on my storage shelf, and I show it to people, but am embarrassed that I'v...

Re: L-1 Gibson Build
That's a beautiful oak back! Too bad the sides wouldn't bend propely. But I think a simple mahogany will go well with the back. I've often wondered why builders almost always (if not truly always) build with sides and back from the same woods.

Yep, I have a love-hate relationship with routers also. At first I thought you meant you burned up the whole body! Geez!
But I think your solution is elegant--to heck with the woodworkers! That redwood burl is gorgeous under a finish.

Hey, Mike,
I wasn't looking for thanks, you've already done that. It was a simple pleasure to see them at work! I really like your skill on this electric guitar. It should be a dandy to look at!

Re: Sing The Body Electric - Building a Parter
The guitar is about complete. I need to file the nut and set it up properly. Also need to make a small black plate for the headstock, and a better cover for the electronics on back. I have a lacewood plate on there now, but am making a thinner one. Main problem seems to be the electronics. I used my...

Re: Sing The Body Electric - Building a Parter
I put a small dab of silicone all around the brass ends, and a dab or two on the top rod in the middle. I put a few pinches of fiberglass between the rods also. When I got done gluing on the fretboard, the rod still vibrated when I struck it with my hand on one side. The next day I tightened it a bi...

Re: Sing The Body Electric - Building a Parter
What I need today is somebody to tell me about the installation of the adjustable neck rod. The brass ends of the rod fit glove-tight, not leaving much room for silicone. I plan on putting a dab on each side and the bottom of those brass ends, right? And I wonder if something like a bit of fiberglas...
