I second the Doctor's opinion! Whew!
Got any photos of the O? The wood sounds interesting.

Re: Sing The Body Electric - Building a Parter
I's reddy, sir! I'll put plugs in the inline holes and veneer the head back and front with somethin'. I guess I had better check max and minimum head thickness first. I have a maple fretboard that seems quite thin to me. But I could put the frets in now, couldn't I? And the dots. I have a black plas...

Re: Sing The Body Electric - Building a Parter
Eben, All my parts have arrived. The hard-tail bridge is just slightly oversized but I think I can carve the cavotu out just a bit on each end. I'm not over-anxious as I'm trying to get the finish on my Bouchet copy. Don't like what's happening with the Tru-oil. :cry: And I'm also working on the Uke...

Re: Sing The Body Electric - Building a Parter
Eben, I picked up the body, neck, fingerboard and a list of recommended parts last night. The neck is maple, I think, and the body is willow and soft maple. Certainly paint grade. He gave them to me at cost ($30) of materials, and maybe just a little bit for the CNC work. We met at a restaurant that...

Re: Blue spruce--any good for tops?
Whew! I hope you were able to cut and paste all those names! But it was worth it, because I get it now.
Thanks, Grant Goltz. (I need to get more specific when I call you by your US Forest name!
)
Seriously, thanks for taking that much time to answer.

Re: Blue spruce--any good for tops?
Thanks, Glen for that reference. There's some good info on Picea abies there, in particular. Grant, that's what I was concerned about--the branches. That confirms my lazy bone theory, which said let other people's sleeping, dead trees alone! I'll leave it to the Church of God people. I do have a lar...

Blue spruce--any good for tops?
At the Northside Church of God in Muncie, IN, there lies a freshly downed 18"dia blue spruce. I haven't inquired as to my chance of getting it, because I have no idea if it is worthwhile as soundboard material. It is a stand-alone tree, well maybe there's a few others close by, but it has branc...

Re: Sing The Body Electric - Building a Parter
Eben, Here's his answer, along with a shot of the back: "The guitar, while certainly Les Paul-esque in shape, is its own beast. A Fender neck will not even come close to working, but is similar in principle and essence. "Regarding the neck: The guitar is 25.5 scale like Fender, but 24 fret...
