Re: Sing The Body Electric - Building a Parter
Yep, the one from my buddy, Doug Hunt, who is teaching tech ed about 30 miles north of here. I visited him again this past Monday and saw how far along his students had come in just a few short weeks. He's quite a teacher. I had a bunch of questions to ask him and he sent me off with information and...

Re: Size 2 Martin build coming late October
It sure takes a lot of time and expertise to duplicate the bar frets exactly, Grant! I'm guessing that cutting, shaping and installing the frets would take more than one day to complete, right? And then there is still the work of leveling and shaping each fret--another day at least? I can't wait to ...

Eben,
I had lost track of this thread, and want to resurrect it for two purposes:
1. What's you finished guitar look like? I assume you completed it.
2. I will post some photos of my long-sleeping electric build soon.

Re: Size 2 Martin build coming late October
I wondered about the grain orientation of the headplate and now that the slots are cut, I can see the result you were after. Nice detail.

Wow! What a great "caveman" piece of work!
Great nerves, Grant. And great nerves your friend must have had to hold that body steady. I can just imagine the grunted conversation that went on as you did the routing.

Grant,
I'd respond more readily if I weren't standing in awe. Just keep posting and I'll keep reading! Thanks.

Re: What to build
Grant, With your skills in building, I think you should do a harp guitar similar to the Stephen Sedgwick Arpa Viola Caipira built for my friend, Brad Hoyt. Brad wrote two articles about it, and this is the link to the second one. The photos of the finished instrument are fantastic. At one of Brad's ...

Re: Ditson ReTop
Interesting, Joe. I can't imagine doing a better job myself with that added brace, but perhaps if you had landed it tight and parallel to the bridge plate, it might have helped a bit more. I think I can see where the thin top bowed in and out around the fretboard too, so it really was a problem of a...
