Olivia's Pink Paduak
Posted by: Raymond Jan 25 2008, 10:10 PM Started this one way back when I last visited Steve Stevens. Brought some Paduak and Curly Makore to Steve who showed me how to get the most sets out of the wood and resawed it for me. http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o274/feissli/Misc/070808005.jpg When I ...

Re: Curly Maple Cutaway for Debbie
Hi Ray, ... Thank you for displaying your mistakes, as it is a much more powerful learning tool for all of us than reading through a book where nothing ever goes wrong... Dennis Some days I think I'm a very good teacher... Thanks for the encouraging words guys. I'm sure someday I'll look back on th...

Re: Curly Maple Cutaway for Debbie
Thanks Steve. The problem with the inside/out side was I had already trimmed it. If I used it as is the front would not have been flat, and if I flattened it the side would have been too narrow in the back. I couldn't remember what the top was so I looked it up. It is White Kermodie Spruce. I'm also...

Re: Curly Maple Cutaway for Debbie
Josh, :) :P ;) Nice looking guitar. What kinda wood is that anyway (besides inside out that is) Hugh, Yes, I plan to go thinner on the cutaway side in the future, but I hadn't had trouble with the non-cutaway side before except for burning it and/or bending it backwards. Raymond

Re: Curly Maple Cutaway for Debbie
Now for the easy side. As I said above I waited good and long before starting the bend to make sure the heat had time to do it's thing and the wood was in the plastic stage. I bent it last night, and put it through a second cycle before going to bed. Unwrapped it after church and viola... http://i1...

Re: Curly Maple Cutaway for Debbie
Thanks Joe. I plan to download this build thread and clean it up and give it to the customer with the guitar. I'll probably delete some of the open discussion about my screw-ups then 8-) so the customer won't worry too much... I have to add that this maple has a lot of tight curl in it and just like...

Re: Curly Maple Cutaway for Debbie
Well let's start with some good news. Remember the cracked cutaway? http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o274/feissli/Debbie%20M/3-8-08010.jpg Well here is what it looks like after some epoxy. (I use epoxy filler so the glue won't show in the end) http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o274/feissli/Debbie...

Re: Curly Maple Cutaway for Debbie
That always stinks to see wood with a crack! The bending blanket is different for everyone I think......it all depends on when and how you clamp it down. Some people think I am nuts for bending at 260 but I have not cracked a set since going down to that temp. I always enjoy seeing your eye for bal...
