My first commission (Kelley's Guitar)

Post by Raymond » Tue Sep 02, 2008 12:19 am

I handed this off to Kelley's husband right before leaving to go on vacation. While on vacation this forum was born.

I asked Kelley to test drive it and let me know what she liked and didn't like and I would finish setting it up in a couple of weeks. I knew the bridge was too high for my liking but wanted her feedback before lowering it any further. According to her husband she loves it and says it's the best soundng guitar they own (and they have several). She would like me to lower the action on the upper frets, which I plan to do next weekend. The neat thing about that is I will have it to take with me to Steve's. :D

Jonathan has recording equipment and says he will try to get Kelley to let him record her playing it for me. If so I'll post it here (unless it sounds really crappy or something)... 8-)

Raymond,

That is a beautiful guitar. I really like the back.

Looking forward to hearing how Kelly can make it sing.

Thanks Lefty.

I wanna hear it to. I don't have a good enough ear to hear when I'm playing it. Besides a good sounding guitar still sounds bad when you don't know how to play.

Nice job! was it hard to kick out of the nest? I know my first commission was very hard. I got through it with some words from Dennis and Eben, but still miss it. I get updates from time to time, so that makes me feel good.

Be sure to get them to do a public review on Harmony Central. I am one of the mods on the review pages there now and they are planning some big things.

Raymond,

That is really a beautiful guitar, but the first thing that strikes me is it looks as though playability was the key design factor. I'm not sure why that seems to be the case - something about the body shape, and particularly the cutaway... the neck looks really well proportioned... the headstock with the nearly straight through the nut string paths... all of it, the overall look is a player's axe.

Congratulations on completing your first commission, and I'm not surprised Kelly loves it!
