Closing up the Body -

Having braced the back and the top, I was ready to close up the box. I like to fit both the back and top before gluing either on. So first I marked and then fit the top,

then I marked and fit the back,

Then glued the top while it was still in the form

then took the guitar out of the form, trimmed the top to the rim, then glued the back on using the adjustable form with hooks for the rubber bands.

I trimmed the back to the rim as well, but those pictures are still in the camera.

Hey Raymond, just noticing what a nice curvy shape this body has. Then had to go back to the start to see if you had mentioned what it was. You said it's one of Steves patterns, I see on the mold it's labeled, parlor L 1, what are the body dimensions? Very nice shape, ought to be perfect for Olivia! I love parlors myself.

Upper bout - 10"
Waist - 8 3/4"
Lower bout - 14 1/2"
Body Length - 19"

I'm pretty sure Steve took the upper bout from a standard Parlor shape and the lower bout from his mid-sized Gibson L1 / L2.

Trimmed the overhang off the back, so now the box is closed up

And a friend made up a set of labels for me and a little program that allows me to print them. Here is the one I made for Olivia.

The family crest on my mother's side is under feissli guitars, and my friend maintained the Japanese theme throughout.

The picture of the label installed didn't come out very well. I had a hard time lighting it.

I haven't settled on a binding yet, but I'm leaning towards something darker. Either Cocobolo, or EIR. The fretboard, bridge and pickguard are all EIR with colorful shell inlays. I still have some purpleheart, but that might be a bit too much with the orangy pink I got goin now...

Thanks guys.

I made up the label awhile back and chose the date on the label because that happens to be her birthday... years from now she'll notice it was her birthday and nobody will remember that the guitar wasn't done by then. 8-)
